I didn't say no when the boys wanted to keep rabbits.
First there was Dusty, then Chocolate, followed by Butterscotch, finally
Hazel, and Starbuck.

Hazel was paired with Chocolate until he disappeared;
then she gladly adopted Starbuck. Hazel lasted only 8 months with her new little friend before she died at the ripe old age of 8, leaving me with a dilemma or an opportunity.

Adopt another companion for Starbuck and thus perpetuate
my life in rabbits or find the little guy a new home.

New homes weren't popping out of the suburban woods, so I called the Georgia chapter of the House Rabbit Society for help. If I agreed to foster one of their rabbits and bond her with my Starbuck, then they would advertise the pair on their website and when the Right People showed up, I would be out of rabbits like magic.

I couldn't say no to such an ideal solution, so on Good Friday,I packed up my bunny and took him to an amazing house pretty much turned over to all sizes and colors of lagamorphs. I only saw the living room, kitchen and garage, but everywhere was filled with prospects!

Danielle, a rabbit whisperer of sorts, introduced Taylor to Starbuck by penning them in with her in the middle of the living room. All three nibbled at each other's noses and generally acted pretty stricken. We took a picture for the website, I bagged up food pellets and hay, and off we went to live happily ever after until the Right People come along.

That was three weeks ago, and while Taylor is a delightful girl, inquisitive and friendly, she eats like a horse and has a strong odor.
Starbuck will not share a cage with her, so they reside in side by side cages at night and get into boxing matches during the day.

I called the rabbit whisperer and she suggested putting them into the same pet carrier and taking them for a walk, or a car ride, or maybe even just a trip to the laundry room. Which I did--set the pair on top of the dryer while it was running, and they were so distracted by their new location, they forgot they were scrunched together. When the dryer load was finished, I carried them into the bathtub to see if they could tolerate each other in a slightly bigger unfamiliar spot.

After about 20 minutes of bunny buddiness,
Starbuck called time, so back they went to side by side cages for their dinner of greens, leaving me to ponder what hoop I'll be hopping through next.
